AURORA — Police are continuing their search for the suspect in a series of “smash and grab”-type burglaries or attempted burglaries after the man hit four additional businesses in recent days.
In all of the crimes, the man used a large brick or rock to smash glass exterior doors to the businesses. He then either attempted to break open or steal the cash registers.
The crimes all were committed between March 8 and March 17, police said. The total loss, including property damage, now totals more than $26,500. The man was caught on surveillance cameras at several of the businesses. He is a white male, 5-foot-5 to 6-feet tall, weighing between 170 and 200 pounds.
The latest surveillance photos show the burglar wearing a face mask, after police posted photos of him last week without a mask.
The latest businesses hit by the burglar are a liquor store in the 1600 block of North Randall Road at around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday; and three gas stations/convenience stores.
Police believe the same burglar hit an automotive repair business in the 2400 block of West Sullivan Road on March 12; and was responsible for criminal damage to property at a bank in the 300 block of West Galena Boulevard overnight March 9-10. He broke into six other businesses March 8 and 9.
Police are asking anyone with information to call investigators at 630-256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers are anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
