Early crash in Batavia hurts five

Five people were hurt in a four-vehicle collision at Fabyan Parkway and Kingsland Drive in Batavia early Wednesday morning, but just one of them appeared to have sustained serious injuries, police said.
A large box truck and three passenger vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened about 6 a.m., according to a press release from the city of Batavia.
Twenty-two responders were called to the scene, where they found one person seriously hurt, three people with moderate injuries and one with just minor injuries. All five were transported from the site to be treated, three at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and two at Mercy Center in Aurora. A sixth person declined to be taken to the hospital for treatment, the news release said.
Ambulances from the Geneva, St. Charles, Elburn, North Aurora and Aurora fire departments assisted with the response, which was completed by 6:45 a.m.
No responders were injured. The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
