A St. Charles man was charged Wednesday after harassing priests who were performing Ash Wednesday ceremonies at the Aurora Transportation Center in downtown Aurora, Aurora police said.
Douglas Komes, 54, of the 200 block of Indiana Street, St. Charles, was charged with criminal trespassing at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Transportation Center, at 233 N. Broadway, police said.
According to a report, Komes was engaging in “negative contact” with commuters, Catholic priests and nuns who were at the train station to present ashes as part of Ash Wednesday observances. Komes accosted a priest and denigrated him, exclaiming that the priest was a fake, police said.
When Komes was told to leave the train station, he refused. He then boarded an RTA bus without paying the required fare, refused to leave the bus and was arrested by police.
