Aurora police say Diamond goes missing in delivery

Updated: March 15, 2013 1:26PM

AURORA — A three-karat diamond reported missing on Monday from a local jewelry store was not actually taken from the shelves, according to Aurora police.

The diamond, valued at $27,300, was part of a package of several jewelry pieces sent from the store at Westfield Fox Valley Mall to the store’s corporate office in Akron, Ohio, Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Wednesday.

The items were sent Jan. 2, he said, but five days later the package showed up without the large diamond.

The investigation is ongoing, Ferrelli said.
