AURORA — A clerk at a liquor store on the northeast side was badly beaten during an armed robbery Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.
The robbery occurred about 6:20 p.m. at a liquor store in the 900 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, police said.
Police were called to the scene after a store customer found the 53-year-old male clerk near the rear of the store, suffering from head trauma.
Police said that shortly before the 911 emergency call was placed, two men, both described as black males in their mid-30s, 5-foot-10 and weighing between 200 and 230 pounds, entered the business.
One of the men, who was wearing a maroon colored shirt, lured the clerk to the rear of the business, police said. The clerk was then apparently approached from behind by the other man who was wearing a tan coat and orange hat. That man then hit the clerk over the head with an unknown object, police said.
The robbers made off with an unknown amount of cash.
After being taken to an Aurora hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics, the clerk was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. His injuries were described as serious, police said.
