Kane County Board still searching for finance leader

Updated: March 1, 2013 7:34PM

Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen now is hoping to have the county’s chief financial officer position filled by the end of February.

Efforts to fill the position hit a snag when the first candidate backed out, but Lauzen said he spent much of last week researching and interviewing two new candidates for the position.

“Sometimes when we’re persistent, the results are even better,” he said.

Two departments came forward last week, requesting supplemental items that were not included in the 2012 budget. Those items were pulled from the Judicial and Public Safety Committee agenda because there is no chief financial officer to review the spending.

When the board set the 2013 budget at the end of last year, 2013 spending was set at 2012 levels, which prevented the departments from budgeting for supplemental items. The departments were told they would be able to bring those requests forward in 2013.

Lauzen said he would not put a stop to all supplemental budget spending, but it is something that will need to be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

“It’s not a policy, it’s just a cautious action,” Lauzen said.

The county’s previous chief financial officers left the position last fall.
