PLAINFIELD — An Aurora man was arrested for making illicit gestures at women in the lingerie section of Wal-Mart Saturday, police said.
Sgt. Mike Fisher said Damien Dickens, 34, “made several women uncomfortable with his actions” in the store, 12690 Route 59.
“As female patrons would approach, he picked up women’s underwear from the shelves and made a show of sniffing and smelling (the panties) in front of them,” Fisher said.
Customers complained and police arrived at 5:26 p.m. to arrest Dickens on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Fisher said police had previous contact with Dickens because of similar conduct at Target, 12800 S. Route 59.
Dickens has been informed he will be arrested for trespassing if he returns to either store. Dickens, of 906 Windemere Lane, was released on his own recognizance.
Dickens has previously been convicted of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report.
In April 2005, Dickens used a cell phone to make at least 19 prank calls to 11 law-enforcement agencies in DuPage, Kendall and Will counties, authorities said.
Dickens anonymously reported to police that a woman was being raped in by three men in a Naperville park, a service station and car wash in Naperville was being robbed and a man was being beaten by reputed gang members near Woodridge.
Dickens’ calls went to the Aurora, Bolingbrook, Glendale Heights, Lisle, Naperville, Oswego, Plainfield and Wheaton police departments, along with the DuPage and Will county sheriff’s departments and DuPage County Forest Preserve District police.
Dickens pleaded guilty in March 2006 in exchange for having two other disorderly conduct counts dismissed.
