Sandwich extends contract with Aurora visitors bureau

SANDWICH — A three-year contract with the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has been approved by the Sandwich City Council.
The visitors bureau had requested a five-year contract, but city officials earlier denied that proposal.
The bureau will get 90 percent of the 3 percent hotel tax collected by the city, with the city retaining the other 10 percent, according to Mayor Tom Thomas. He said the city’s portion must be used for tourism.
The Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau represents Aurora, Batavia, Big Rock, Hinckley, Montgomery, North Aurora, Plano, Sandwich, Sugar Grove and Yorkville.
In other action, City Engineer Tom Horak reported that Sandwich District Library officials are preparing a stormwater agreement and a variance for the future library building site on South Main Street.
Access to the site will be from both South Main Street and South Vale Street.
Other work needed before construction begins is the demolition of several agriculture buildings, a barn and corn crib. The land is not yet annexed to the city.
