Metra may be looking to the village of Montgomery as the location for a commuter park-n-ride lot.
Trustees were asked which of two possible sites for the new Metra parking area would be preferable. A site at Lyon Metal at 420 W. Main Street got the most support from the Village Board.
“I would favor the Lyon site,” said Trustee Matt Brolley. “It’s a better site for us.”
Mayor Marilyn Michelini said the other location, south of Routes 30 and 31, is in Kendall County and said she would prefer the location be in Kane County.
The request for the preferred site is only a preliminary step and village officials cautioned the reality of Metra lot, where commuters would park and then take a shuttle to the Aurora Transportation Center train station, could still be years away.
In other action, trustees gave the go ahead to further plans to grant a liquor license to Munir Rafidia, who wants to build a sports bar by combining buildings at 1560 and 1564 Douglas Road.
“We are proposing to operate an establishment for a sit down bar, serving ‘bar’ food. We would like to include video gaming in the establishment,” Rafidia wrote in his letter of application.
Rafidia said he would be applying for the maximum five gaming machines for the his new facility.
He said the restaurant “would have pasta, pizza and sandwiches” and he expects to have a great deal of revenue generated through a pizza delivery service.
