AURORA — West Aurora High School will be adding four new members to its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Honor next spring.
The 2013 Hall inductees will be Edgar Neil Foster Jr., class of ’38; Robert Garrison, ‘54; Carol Cauldwell McElroy, ’61; and Michael Oros, ‘80.
The induction ceremony and banquet will be April 20 at the Aurora Country Club. For dinner information, contact Randi Ochsenschlager at 630-897-6785.
This year’s inductees will be the seventh group honored.
Foster was a world-famous magician who was invited to perform at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in London. He was the editor of The New Tops, a trade journal for magicians, edited several magic books and also operated a school of magic.
Garrison is an astronomer, author and educator. His primary research has involved the discovery and description of certain types of stars. He is known for his way of making the most complex of subjects — advanced areas of the Milky Way Galaxy and analysis of the stellar contents of star clusters — accessible for his students.
McElroy is a teacher whose classroom locations have included China, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Mauritania, Turkey, Armenia, Spain, Iceland and Costa Rica. She and her husband, Richard, go into developing countries to teach children and adults ways in which to better themselves and their communities.
Oros is a prosthetist and orthotist, a faculty member at Northwestern University’s orthotic/prosthetic program and president of an orthotics and prosthetics firm. He makes yearly trips to remote villages of Ecuador to fit prosthetic devices for the poor who have lost limbs.
The Hall of Honor program is sponsored by the A+ Foundation of West Aurora Schools. For information, visit www.aplusfoundation.org.
