Woman recalls Connecticut victim’s parents

Teresa Martin wept Sunday as she thought about the pain her former North Aurora neighbors must be going through.
Joel and Joann Bacon lost their six-year-old daughter Charlotte in the terrible shooting at the Connecticut elementary school.
Though Martin never met Charlotte — the little girl was born after the family moved East — the Bacon family sent Martin an email with a photo of the baby announcing the birth.
“When I saw the victims, it matched with the picture,” Martin, 51, told the Sun-Times on Sunday. “I just broke out crying.”
The Bacons lived across the street from Martin’s family from 2000 to 2005, Martin said.
She remembered her neighbors fondly and said she and Charlotte’s mom became good friends. Both got pregnant within months of each other and became new moms together.
The Bacon’s older son, Guy, and Martin’s daughter Ponette , 10, played together as young babies, Martin said.
“I thought Joann was the most likeable person I’d met in my life,” Martin said. “She was always happy, she was always laughing.
She was full of life. I’m sure her daughter would be the same way. It’s just a tragic loss.”
