NORTH AURORA — The first hat thrown into the ring for the North Aurora village presidential election has landed in that ring twice before.

Village President Dale Berman announced Friday that he intends to seek a third term in office in the April 2013 election.

“I want to continue efforts to increase planned growth in North Aurora,” Berman said. “The village is in very good financial position, and the addition of several new businesses the past four years has added to our commercial and retail growth.”

He cited the police station construction and the Village Hall renovation, both finished on time and within budget, as highlights of his tenure as village president.

“Several large developers are reviewing plans for commercial development and several annexation agreements are in process. These have the potential for up to several hundred new employees,” he added.

The 78-year-old Los Angeles native settled in North Aurora 50 years ago, soon after completing two years of military service and earning a bachelor’s degree in business management at Northern Illinois University, with additional coursework at Northwestern University. He has spent 46 years in village government, serving as village president and trustee as well as stints on the Planning Commission, the Police Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Other local and regional offices Berman has held include president of the Fox Valley Park District Board; president of the Provena Mercy Medical Center Foundation Board; president of the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Board; member of the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Board; president of the North Aurora Jaycees; and president of the North Aurora Lions Club.

Retired from a sales career with IBM, Xerox and First Alert, Berman and his wife, Mary, have four children and seven grandchildren.

Filing for the April election runs from Dec. 17 to Nov. 26.
