Man faces heroin possession charges

A Yorkville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he was found shooting heroin in the bathroom of a Plano convenience store, police said.

Jacob Mellema, 23, 700 block of Fir Court, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:56 a.m. Wednesday after police were called to a store in the 6800 block of West Route 34 for reports of a suspicious person.

Police found Mellema using heroin in the store’s bathroom, reports said.

He was taken to Valley West Hospital where he was evaluated, and then taken into custody, police said.


Someone stole a water meter, and copper piping sometime between noon Nov. 15 and 10 a.m. Tuesday from a home in the 700 block of Honeysuckle Lane, police said. The suspect also damaged several ceiling tiles during the burglary. Estimated loss was set at $4,300, police said.


Sean Young, 18, 2500 block of Autumn Court, Aurora, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia at 11 p.m. Tuesday near Route 71 and Washington Street, police said.
