Sheriff seeks man who approached child near Maple Park

Updated: October 31, 2012 7:08PM

Police are investigating a suspicious incident of a man approaching a young boy outside a home near Maple Park.

According to Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler, at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday a van pulled into a driveway in the 46W400 block of Beith Road, near the intersection with Route 47. The driver asked an 8-year-old boy standing in the driveway if he wanted a ride, police said.

The boy ran inside the house, and his mother heard the vehicle stop and looked outside. She described the van as a four-door, maroon 1990s model with a hatchback and a loud muffler, Gengler said. The driver was described as a older man with white hair, glasses and a wrinkly face, Gengler said.

Sheriff’s deputies checked the area, but did not find the driver. There have been no additional reports of similar incidents in the area.

Gengler said this incident is a reminder to parents to keep an eye on their children and talk to them about stranger danger.

Police said anyone who encounters a similar situation, or who may have information about this incident, should contact their local police department.
