Aurora made a fiery effort Monday to preserve native grasses.
The city conducted a controlled burn on two to three acres of native grasses Monday morning and afternoon near the Aurora Police Department on Indian Trail west of Farnsworth Avenue, on the northeast side.
Mark Anderson, superintendent of the Division of Central Services, said the burn was intended to eliminate heavy thatch in the area that hinders rain and sunlight from reaching deep-rooted native grasses.
