ST. CHARLES — A 24-year-old Australian is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly assaulting a woman at a St. Charles conference center.
Jefry Sutjito, of Melbourne, Australia, was charged with criminal sexual assault, attempted criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse, St. Charles police said Thursday.
St. Charles police were called to the Q Center conference facility on Fifth Avenue, at 10:15 a.m. Monday for a report of a sexual assault. Officers talked to a 22-year-old woman, Sutjito and other witnesses. Sutjito and the woman were participating in a four-week training class at the conference center.
Sutjito was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Police said they put a 72-hour investigative hold on Sutjito while they contacted the Kane County Priority Prosecution Unit. Sutjito was charged Wednesday.
Bail for Sutjito was set at $500,000 and he was required to surrender his passport. His next court date is Oct. 11.
Police said although Sutjito lives in Australia, he is a citizen of Indonesia. Notification was made to the Indonesian consulate that he was in custody, police said.
