Race is on for Fox Valley school boards

Residents interested in running for school boards across the Fox Valley now can start gathering signatures for their election petitions.

Forms are available at local district administrative buildings. Petitions must be filed between Dec. 17 and 24. To be eligible to serve on a school board, a person must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident of the state and the school district for at least a year before the election.

East Aurora: Petitions can be picked up at the McKnight School Service Center, 417 Fifth St. Five the district’s seven board seats will be up for a vote in the April 2013 election. Three newly elected candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017 and two candidates will serve two-year terms expiring in April 2015. West Aurora: Petitions can be picked up at the District Administrative Office, 80 S. River St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Petitions may be filed in person or mailed to: Secretary to the Board of Education, West Aurora School Dist. #129, PO Box 4430, Aurora, IL 60507. Three of the seven board positions will be filled, with terms expiring in April 2017. Call the board secretary at 630-301-5033.

Indian Prairie: Petitions can be picked up from the office of the board secretary at the Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. Five seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Four candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017, and one will serve a two-year term expiring April 2015. Call 630-375-3000.

Batavia: Petitions can be picked up at the District Administration Center, 335 W. Wilson St., Batavia. Four seats of the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates will serve four-year terms, expiring in April 2017. Call 630-937-5800.

Geneva: Petitions can be picked up at the Geneva School District Central Office, 227 N. Fourth St. Petition forms are also available online at www.geneva304.org/board_of_education/2013_elections.asp. Four seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017. Call 630-463-3000.

Kaneland: Petitions can be picked up from Beth Sterkel in the superintendent’s office, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park. Three seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017. Call 630-365-5111. Oswego: Petitions can be picked up at the District Administration Center, 4175 Route 71, Oswego. Four seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017. Call 630-636-3080.

Plano: Petitions can be picked up at the district office at 800 S. Hale Street, Plano. Three seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017. Call 630-552-8978.

Somonauk: Petitions can be picked up at the district office at 501 W. Market St., Somonauk. Five of the seven board seats will be filled. Four candidates will serve four-year terms, expiring in April 2017. One candidate will fill a two-year term, expiring in 2015. Call 815-498-2314.

St. Charles: Petitions can be picked up in the office of the recording secretary at the Administration Center, 201 S. 7th St., St. Charles. Four seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Yorkville: Petitions can be picked up at the district office at 602A Center Parkway, Yorkville. Four seats on the seven-member board will be filled. Candidates will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017. Call 630-553-4382.
