WASHINGTON — The Democratic Campaign Congressional Committee on Tuesday started running cable ads attacking Republican Rep. Judy Biggert, with the spot jumping to broadcast on Oct. 23, sources said.
The buy is part of the DCCC — the political operation for House Democrats — independent expenditure effort to elect Bill Foster in the new 11th Congressional District, which includes Aurora, Naperville, Plainfield and Joliet.
The DCCC has set aside $3 million for House races in the Chicago market. The ad targeting Biggert is the start of a $65,000 weekly buy.
Millions of dollars have already been spent in Super Pac and independent expenditures in Illinois House races and more money will be sent to Illinois in the coming weeks as the parties battle for control of Congress.
On Sept. 21, according to Federal Election Commission records, the national Republican Congressional Committee spent $266,040 for media hitting Foster. The GOP House political shop has set aside several million dollars for other Illinois House races.
