AURORA — The Aurora Public Library debuted a new satellite location on the city’s northeast side Friday.

The Express Center, at 1100 Church Road, is a new public space at the library’s existing support services facility. In addition to books, e-readers, audiobooks, DVDs and magazines, the center has five computer stations. The Church Road collection features books in English and Spanish, and one computer station will be dedicated to Spanish speakers to meet the needs of the surrounding neighborhood, said Kathleen Butzen, library outreach services manager.

“It’s not meant to be a full-blown (library) branch,” Butzen said.

The Express Center will be open 20 hours a week.

Alderman Abby Schuler, 1st Ward, said she was very appreciative of the library’s effort to set up the branch in her ward.

“This was all done for the neighbors here,” Schuler said.

Library Executive Director Eva Luckinbill said the library has discussed opening a satellite branch since it began occupying the Church Road location more than 10 years ago.

“It was something we could do almost immediately with a few dollars,” Luckinbill said. “It’s not only an Express Center; (staff) worked in a express manner to get this set up.”

More than 175 people have visited the branch since it’s soft opening Sept. 19, Butzen said. Library card holders can order a book to be picked up at the branch via phone, 630-264-4100, or the library’s website,

The Express Center will be open Monday and Thursday from 3-8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-5 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
