Aurora police investigating burglaries on East Side

Aurora police are investigating several burglaries to unlocked cars in neighborhoods near the Oakhurst Forest Preserve on the East Side.
According to police, burglars broke into at least four cars Saturday evening or Sunday morning in the 700 block of Ryegrass Trail, 700 block of Periwinkle Lane, 1800 block of Westridge Place and 1900 block of Sedgegrass Trail. Items taken included a garage door opener, sunglasses, cash, purse, an iPod and a GPS unit. The burglars may have been caught on tape fleeing from one of the cars, police said.
A large charcoal grill, worth $330, was taken from a home in the 400 block of Samantha Court between midnight Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. According to police, there have been several reports of large metal items being taken from the neighborhood.
About $1,200 damage was done when someone scratched two cars parked at a house in the 500 block of Greenwood Drive between 6 and 8:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Jason Pierce, 47, 600 block of South River Street, Aurora, was charged with felony retail theft for taking $400 worth of alcohol from a business in the 3000 block of Route 34 in June, police said Tuesday.
