East Aurora teachers agree to  contract

Updated: September 10, 2012 9:36PM

AURORA — The East Aurora teachers union has agreed to a tentative contract with the East Aurora School Board, the School District announced Monday.

Members of the East Aurora Council of the American Federation of Teachers Local 604 approved the terms of the three-year pact on Friday.

The School Board will vote on the contract on Sept. 17, the district said.

In May, East Aurora teachers voted down a proposal that included a $1,200 across-the-board raise and a 1.75 percent salary increase to compensate for a longer school day. Teachers union president Craig Rhodes said then that teachers wanted multiple issues addressed, and that pay and work hours were not THE sole sticking points. He also cited poor working conditions and a lack of support from district leadership.

Details of the contract were not released Monday. According to district spokesman Clayton Muhammad, the terms of the contract will be released Monday, after the school board’s vote.
