Family and friends gathered this weekend in Yorkville to remember the life of Ryan Horne, 25, who died in a car crash near Newark last week.

Horne had recently returned home from serving in the U.S. Army and was living with his mother in Yorkville.

Horne, of the 100 block of Appletree Court, Yorkville, was driving on Newark Road when his 2005 Ford Mustang left the road at 9:23 p.m. July 15 near Lisbon and Newark roads, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office said. Horne was thrown from the car.

Horne was a 2005 graduate of Yorkville High School. He had served in the Army 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and Infantry at Fort Bragg, N.C. He had just completed two tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

He enjoyed playing guitar and drawing. He is survived by his mother in Yorkville, his father in Cincinnati and two brothers. Funeral services were held on Saturday.
