Naperville commuters looking to avoid the hike in tolls by taking the train to Chicago instead soon will be faced with a rail fee hike.
Metra commuter rail prices will increase an average of 25 percent on Feb. 1. Metra officials said the increase is needed to help relieve a $53.6 million budget deficit.
Commuters from the Naperville Metra station to Chicago’s Union Station will see one-way ticket prices escalate from $5 to $5.75.
Ten-ride and monthly pass rates will increase by 28 percent. Ten rides will now cost $51.75, compared to $40.40; monthly passes will rise in price from $128.25 to $163.75.
Commuters aren’t advised to stock up on the cheaper tickets now — tickets brought through Jan. 31 will only be valid until the end of February, Metra said.
The 10-ride discount, which currently works out to 10 rides for the price of eight, will change to 10 rides for the price of nine.
Monthly passes will now expire on the last day of each month, as opposed to noon on the first of the following month,
